This South Island wedding by Jake Thomas � as seen in Issue 4 of Magnolia Rouge Magazine � showcases some stunning New Zealand scenery, not to mention some incredible photography by one of New Zealand's best. The bride wore a beautiful Jane Hill gown which fitted her to perfection and I love that the groom chose Navy for his suit. Talk about a hot looking couple! Bourbon Rose created some beautiful hand-tied arrangements in orange, peach and coral which pop perfectly against the landscape.
'Interactive, detailed and wondrous' is how Alice and Brad describe their big day, and with creative ideas like a charity raffle for the witness roles and a menu named after family members and made up of their favourite dishes, that's exactly what it was. As a tribute to their first date (ice creams on the beach), the couple set up an Ice Cream Parlour for dessert, including loads of delicious toppings like homemade cookie dough and salted caramel sauce - a huge hit! Guests were also encouraged to fill out 'wedding feedback cards' as a fun alternative to the traditional guest book.
"We wanted our wedding to have a relaxed, rustic, country feel and added retro, vintage elements. We hunted out a venue that felt like a barn and could seat 160 people - as Larcomb Events Centre seats 300 plus, it meant we could set up long tables with beautifully handmade recycled rimu bench seats. We spent time at vintage swap meets and second hand stores finding wooden crates, old board games, milk bottles, etc., then combined them with family wedding photos, tins, View-Masters... just about anything we loved! For our favours, my mum and dad made jars of blackberry and apple jelly - they grew the blackberries themselves, so it felt like a piece of my home."
�Seeing each other for the first time for photos before the ceremony, and having that time together was just perfection. It was the calm before the storm, and I treasure those moments.
After the speeches had finished, we had a projector play a same day edit video. In the middle of the film it cut to footage of my grandparents' wedding in 1952 (which had been transferred from old reel to DVD). It was a massive effort for my grandparents to travel down for our big day, and I will never forget looking over and seeing the joy and surprise on their faces when they realised what they were seeing."
