Portland Photographer

I am a Fine Art Film Wedding Photographer based out of Portland Oregon. I am so blessed to be a part of the most memorable moments in so many people’s lives. My desire as an artist is to create photos that are full of life and express beauty in an honest way. For this reason, I choose to photograph people in an organic nature with medium format film. This allows me to slow down and turn my eye to detail in order to document moments that are meaningful. I am moved by sincerity, gestures of purity, and the disappearing value of the tangible.

I graduated from college as a civil engineer in 2007. Soon after, I became a licensed professional engineer, where I learned the importance of detail, precision, and organisation. I have worked as a photographer since 2012 and I incorporate those additional skill sets to my workflow. All of the couples I get to work with really enjoy that I have that previous training.

Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT… with friends and family eating a meal outdoors.

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… during our honeymoon trip, my wife and I drove to a little town in Northern Ireland. We received several recommendations from different random people to go eat at a specific restaurant and meet Will, the manager there. They told us that it would be pretty obvious who he was. We decided to give it a try and from the moment we arrived we felt at home and were treated like royalty not only by Will (a tall thing Irish man with jet black hair slicked back), but also by several other locals we met as we waited for our table. At the end of the night Will brought a large Alaskan baked cake that we shared with the whole restaurant. It is an experience I will never forget. Since then, we always try to drive to the most remote little towns in the countries we visit.

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… on the top of my bucket list is Switzerland, because of the majestic Swiss Alps. Hopefully we get to visit soon!

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… I love that I get to be a part of some of the most memorable moments in the lives of so many people. As a photographer, my job is to document those special moments for many years to come. That is quite amazing!

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD BE/DO… I studied structural engineering and I am licensed in that field. I enjoy using my artistic side in photography, but I also enjoy the technical side in me. I would continue as a structural engineer if I wasn’t a photographer.

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE… the importance of hiring wedding professionals to make sure that your big day is as beautiful as you imagined. Also, a very wise couple once told me whilst Athina and I were planning our own wedding, to make it a priority to set days apart to do dates where we did not talk about our upcoming wedding. It is so important to do that to not be burnt out that day.

I LOVE WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE… I love Portland Oregon, because just an hour and a half east from here I can go snowboard and one and a half hours west from here I can go surfing. If you are very adventurous, you can do both in one day! The pacific northwest sure is magical.

IF I COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD IT WOULD BE… I have traveled a lot, and I have to say that I don’t think I would like to live anywhere else than where I live now, Portland is my happy place… at least for now

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? Any movie that has to do with the Roman empire, therefore, I have to say Gladiator with Russell Crowe

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… Oh man! That is a tough question. I love food! But my most memorable meal will have to be while my wife and I visited this really small town in Tuscany Italy. We stayed in an ancient building that was first used as a convent, but now is privately owned by a family. We were the only guests that night, however, they still opened the kitchen for us. We imagined that the meal would be great, but we could not have anticipated what we were in for. Our eight course meal, yes, EIGHT, was prepared by a Michelin Star chef named Susana, and served by a very friendly host. The whole experience was about three hours long. It did not feel like we were at a restaurant but in someone’s home. The experience was so intimate and we had such a great time with the chef and host that we ended the night drinking cognac with them both. Such an amazing experience!
