Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY, I WOULD SPEND IT… this may not be the most conventional answer, but my ideal Sunday would be a day of nothing at all. Lazy Sundays with no plans on the agenda are my kind of heaven. Days like this are a rare occasion for a family of four, so we try to take advantage of them whenever they pop up - using the extra time to garden or hike when the weather is warm, or hibernate under a blanket with a cup of tea and a good book during winter.

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… I've been lucky enough to visit some fantastic places for both work and personal travel, but a trip to London and Paris when I was 17 years old was probably my most impactful travel experience. The trip made me aware of a whole other set of cultures and customs, and the perspectives I gained served to expand and shape my worldview as I got older.

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… my bucket list is running a little long at the moment, but if I had to choose one place to go tomorrow, it would be Istanbul for its rich history, culture, and stunning scenery.

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… there's nothing quite like the intimacy and joy of a couples' wedding day, and being asked to help witness and tell the story of the day is an incredible honour. I love taking all of the individual moments and weaving them into a comprehensive narrative that feels just right for the couple because no celebration or love story is the same.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB, I WOULD BE… a professional homesteader! I playfully call myself a "casual homesteader," since we do own a bit of acreage, but if I had more time, I'd take on even more land and dive headfirst into tending to it. Waking up with the sun, embracing a slower lifestyle, and learning to live as locally as possible sounds like a dream to me.

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE, IT WOULD BE…
hold onto that "newly engaged" feeling for as long as possible. Wedding planning can feel like a rush to the finish line, which tends to take the magic out of the actual act of getting married. Also, couples will encounter more than a few insights and input along the way, but I try to remind them that a wedding day deserves to be entirely theirs from start to finish.

I LOVE WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE… we have excellent quality food, clean air, and space to roam. There's something so grounding about being able to see the mountains from my backyard, and it's a view that inspires me year-round.

IF I COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, IT WOULD BE… Colorado! I feel so lucky to have landed in this beautiful state, and I would choose it again and again.

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? Before Sunrise," a 1995 indie film starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. The two characters wander the streets of Vienna after a happenstance meeting on a train, and the way their story unfolds is magical.

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… Isn't it always the dishes from our childhood that we remember most? My mom would make a cherry cheesecake dessert for every Thanksgiving when we were growing up, and I would look forward to it all year long.

THE PETS I OWN ARE… we have a loyal, retired heeler dog named Charlie Brown, 16 chickens, and roughly 60 thousand bees at any given time. We are so fond of all of them!
