Good Things Floral Co

Hi! I’m Devin, founder of Good Things Floral Co. My style has been described as organic, romantic, and luxurious. The garden-inspired designs I create help couples go from simply decorating their weddings to creating an atmosphere that their guests will carry with them forever. At Good Things, we have taken event floristry from common, ornamental, and kitschy to artistic, inspiring, and breathtaking.

Friends would describe me as a bit dreamy, spontaneous, and of the “rose-colored lenses” sort. But that’s who should be serving you on your wedding day: creative people with exciting vision. I see your wedding space for what it is, envisage all that it could be, and then work tirelessly to make that vision come to life.

Floristry, being in nature, tending the earth, embracing multiple creative aspects of life – this is the sweet, everyday reality of where my family lives and how our business exists.

Our bespoke floral design studio is based in a small town in the Pacific Northwest; most of our clients hail from Washington state, Oregon, and Montana.

Devin lives on her family’s 1.5-acre property in the woods with her husband Jake and their three children: Boon, Scout, and Pippa. They have a dog named Foreman and a cat named Mose.

Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT… trying a new restaurant for brunch, going for a walk along the river near our house, and snuggling with my kids on a pile of blankets in front of a movie. Pausing the movie to run out for a pizza in our slippers. Finishing the movie, putting the kids to bed late, and then staying up way too late playing card games and drinking St. Germain with the husband. This question is clearly “a free Sunday” - but also my dream day in general.

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… my family’s cross-country drive (from Washington to Michigan and back) when I was twelve years old. It gave me an incredible hunger for travel that has stayed with me all these years. After taking 4 kids through eleven states in 2 and ½ weeks, the experience gave me such a deeper respect for my parents. (Especially now that I have three of my own children!)

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… Ireland. It changes a lot, and for the past few years it’s been France. But I’ve just heard so much about the friendliness of the people in Ireland and the landscape is unmatched. And um, hi. Castles.

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… 1. Every single couple is unique. We receive inquiries for similar palettes and aesthetics, but the ingredients are never 100% the same. I used to work in an office setting where every day was pretty much identical. Floral design brought that much needed shake-up to my life. 2. I typically get to travel somewhere new every year, whether it’s for a wedding or a workshop or scouting for venues. This is probably my favourite part. I should have swapped these. This should be number 1.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD DO… photography, I think? I dabbled in it a bit for a few years and I like to do my own flat lays and styled things at home as a little hobby. Whatever my alternate career would be, it would definitely be something creative or something involving travel, like what I do currently!

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE…sunflowers are not that bad, you guys. Calm down about hating sunflowers.

I LOVE WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE… the climate is mild and I live next to an active volcano. Everyone likes a little risk in their life!

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? Pride and Prejudice (2005)

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… It’s a toss up between an experience my husband and I recently had at a Brazilian steakhouse, and a wine-tasting at Roblar Winery in Santa Ynez, California.

THE PETS I OWN ARE… our nine-year-old dog, Foreman, and a ten-week-old kitten, Mose.
