Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT…  I am so thankful to frequently be able to take my family with me when I travel for weddings so while I love our relaxed Sundays at home cooking and doing new house projects, truly my favourite thing is exploring together. I absolutely cherish those days filled with discovering new places, sipping on coffees, tasting local treats, and taking a million and one adorable new Maddie pictures to share with all her doting grandparents!

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… as much as I love travelling with my family, I'll never forget my first solo trip to California for a wedding. I was driving through the astonishingly beautiful mountains outside San Francisco (okay maybe they're hills but to this Jersey Girl they were mountains!) windows down, my favourite podcast on, snacking on the most delicious gluten free sandwich from Mariposa Bakery and felt so entirely fulfilled and at peace. Even though it was just a simple - beautiful but simple - drive out to the venue, it was the moment I knew with complete and total certainty that being a destination-loving wedding photographer was without question my life's calling.

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… Greece! As much as I love so many destinations throughout Europe, Tuscany and Paris being particular favourites, I have been dreaming of Santorini for as long as I can remember.

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… this is the hardest question because I love so many aspects of my work, I literally sit in my oversized leather office chair grinning from ear to ear every day while editing your images just from seeing these moments captured and remembering the joy of your day. Ultimately, though, I think what I love most about my work is the way that the images I create will be a part of my couple's lives for years and even generations to come. The magnitude of the promises you're making on your wedding day is something I hold the absolute deepest respect for and so I look at your wedding images as a joyful reminder of those promises in good times and as a source of strength when life is more challenging. While I love the florals and getting ready moments and belly laughs at your best man's toast, what I truly love most is that these images will continue to live on being looked at and treasured again and again as party of your love story.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD BE/DO…
I have held so many jobs- high school English teacher, small business owner, food blogger, and more - and I can say with complete confidence this is the job I was always meant to do. Every twisting road, every different role I've had, each has given me a unique skill I didn't know I needed until I found this career and I am so thankful for each step that brought me to wedding photography. I've lived so many other jobs and there is nothing I would rather do than this.

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE…
try to slow down and appreciate this time. I know this is something most wedding photographers say but it's because we know how stressful and complicated planning an event like a wedding can be, but we also see the joy and perfect imperfections of how it all turns out. Make time to step back and remember the purpose behind all the planning, the joy and love and connection between you and your partner, and pause to both reflect on and celebrate that! Also- hire a wedding planner, truly, your peace of mind and ability to enjoy this short engagement season in your life is so worth it and their guidance and organization will go miles to helping you relax and be present for your day!

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? The Princess Bride is a classic in our family and holds a lot of meaning for my husband and I because we watched it together on our second date! I do have to admit, though, that I've watched through all 20+ Marvel movies multiple times, even the director's commentary editions, I just can't get enough!

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… I'm gluten intolerant and often that makes travel more complicated but not in Italy. Once, while staying in Chianti with family, we wanted to go out for a special meal and after a bit of googling we decided to try il ristoro di lamole. Now, the drive to ristoro di lamole is not for the faint of heart and even six years later I still describe it as "remember that place we went to with the tiny winding roads" but the sunset view when we arrived was truly unparalleled. The meal was divine (and they handled my allergy with ease), but it's the experience of being with family sitting around that patio table nursing lemonchellos until late in the night that I'll always remember.
