Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT… going to the farmer’s market with my husband, reading, taking care of my plants, watching football, and making a fun dinner at home!

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… last year when we took a trip to Peru and hiked Machu Picchu, it was amazing being surrounded by the Andes and picturing how it was so so many years ago!

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… Morocco! We have plans to visit in May and I’m so excited! Although Morocco is top of my list right now, our travel wish list is always lengthy and we do a pretty good job of getting out and about in the world! Last year alone we visited Mexico, France, Belgium, Amsterdam, Ireland, Scotland, London, Peru, and domestically we traveled up and down the East Coast as well as all over the Nation Parks in Utah which are insanely gorgeous!! This year we have plans for Morocco, Spain, Iceland, Italy, and more that I'm sure will be planned!

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… being able to allow people see themselves through my eyes. There's a difference between looking at people and really seeing them, seeing their uniqueness, their individuality, their style, their insecurities, their strengths, and their beauty. I find that people tend to see themselves filtered through their own perceptions or issues they have and I am able to be there to tell them and show them who I see when I look at them.  It's absolutely the most rewarding part of my job.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD BE/DO… something involving making. I love learning new skills and crafts and am always fascinated by other makers and the completely amazing things they bring into the world. This actually inspired a passion project of mine called The Maker Series where I am traveling the country (hopefully the world soon), meeting female artisans, and photographing them creating in their studios. It’s been such an inspiring project already and I have plans to turn it into a gorgeous book series!

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE… invest in a photographer that you connect with and that will give you timeless photos that you and your family will be able to cherish for years to come. I also always like to remind my couples to slow down and enjoy this special time in their lives. Everything will get done and the wedding will be amazing but the most important thing is that you are present and can fully appreciate these experiences with the people you love.

I LOVE WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE… it’s a city full of life and opportunities to see and do amazing things. With my husband in the Army we move pretty frequently and it’s always a chance for us to fully discover a new city and part of the country. We have lived in North Carolina, Oklahoma, California, and Georgia and are hoping to move out west after we leave DC!

IF I COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD IT WOULD BE… Northern California! There is something that always calls to me out there - the light is amazing and the geography is insanely beautiful!

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? Tombstone! As inappropriate as it may be, I have been able to quote this movie since I was ten years old! Kurt Russell (who plays Wyatt Earp in the movie) is also my all time favourite actor! My dad loved the movie so much and it was sort of “our thing” to watch it together … over and over and over!!

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS … In my family we have an incredible recipe for Beef Stroganoff and throughout my life I have requested it for my birthday meal, we have eaten it on the holidays, made it to celebrate big occasions, etc. It was my dad’s absolute favourite meal and since he has passed away, we now make it every year on his birthday because we know he would love that! It’s a meal that is special to us and is something that I look forward to passing down.

THE PETS I OWN ARE… one adorable, super spoiled cat named Squirrel! I’m not ashamed to say that roughly 75% of the images on my phone are of her!
