Maggie Smith

Southern California Photographer

Hello from the Golden State. My name is Maggie and I am a Fine Art Wedding Photographer based in Southern California. I am passionate about nature, road trips, sunsets and weddings.

My images have been described as candid, emotional, romantic & airy. I am passionate about storytelling. Every image shot is taken with intention and thoughtfulness so as to capture the essence of your day. We always have a lot of laughs and you will always get the direction you need from me when the time comes without interrupting the candid moments.

I love making real connections with my couples and bringing out their personalities in my portraits. My photography evokes feelings of genuine love and affection and not just some overused pose that is currently the trend. I will create images that tell the story of your wedding day in the best way possible.

Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT… sleeping in late. Then I would head over to the farmer’s market and end the day going on a leisurely stroll.

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… Alaska. There are no words to describe my love for Alaska. I have been several times and even dream of it when I am not there. The desire to visit there came to me in a dream and knew I had to one day visit.

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… Italy. Something about the countryside filled with wineries and beaches speak to me. And of course, the pasta.

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… meeting new people. I am a chatty Cathy that knows no stranger. I love being able to meet new people and make new friends.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD… most likely be working in a museum. My formal studies are in Anthropology and History. I would feel right at home at any Museum of Natural History.

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE have fun at the wedding you have been planning for so long. Do not let the stress of the day and all the little things that could come up take away from the real reason you are there. And hire a planner...you will not regret it.

I LOVE WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE… I love the mountains. I have the honour of living within a National Forest. My heart longs for the mountains and I never get tired of the fresh air.

IF I COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD IT WOULD BE… Alaska. There is something magical about it. It feels like home when I am there as if I was meant to live my life there.

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? Silence of the lambs. haha Don’t judge me I love a good thriller.

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… something called a “Fish Bowl” in a small restaurant in Homer Alaska after having spent a long rainy day exploring a nearby Island. The Fish Bowl was essentially a fish stew paired with a glass of wine it was the perfect meal to end the day.

THE PETS I OWN ARE… the loves of my life! I have my sweet Amy (14 years old Australian Shepherd) she is my sweet old lady. She is the sweetest soul that ever lived. Bonita is my mischievous terror...I mean Terrier. She is blind but that in no way stops her from getting into all sorts of trouble. Then there is Mako (yup like a shark) He is my ferocious 5 pound miniature Pincher. He believes he is an Apex predator on top of the food chain and unafraid of anything. Needless to say I always have to keep my eye on him. Then I have my two cats. My Tom. He is a large Tom cat. 14 years old and the most laid back, chill cat that ever was. He is and has always been a perfect saint. Last but not least is June. She is my youngest cat, not a Saint. I repeat, not a saint. She is my heathen cat. The kind of Shenanigans she gets into have me thinking I should get cat insurance.
