Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT… my ideal Sunday would be spent exploring one of Europe’s great cities with my husband and my camera. I am forever a student of classical art and architecture, and there is nothing that makes me feel more creatively inspired than experiencing a new culture. We would rise at sunrise, walk hand-in-hand for miles on end and watch the city begin to wake, visit an outdoor market and an art museum, and finish the day at a romantic little candlelit bistro. La bonne vie!

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… nestled tightly between the majestic chalk cliffs of Normandy, the town of Étretat enchanted us with its quaint streets, amazing seafood, and stunning views. Initially, we had planned on dining at the famous Dormy House, but when the grey clouds (typical of Normandy) started to part, we decided to cancel our reservations and instead, hike up to the famed cliffside chapel for a sunset picnic. We headed to the local boulangerie for bread and then to a specialty shop to pick up cheese, fruit, and champagne, and began the climb up to Chapelle Notre Dame de la Garde.

Completely alone except for the occasional seagull and grazing cow in the distance, we drank champagne from the bottle while watching in amazement as the sun illuminated the sky, sea, and cliffs to the most ethereal golden-pink hue we had ever laid eyes on. We sat on the cliff for hours, until the very last bit of light dissipated and turned the sky into an inky shade of blue. Sublimely humbled by the beauty of our world, it was one of those rare instances where we were acutely aware of the fact that we were in the middle of a moment that would live on in our hearts forever.

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… It’s impossible to pick just one, but lately, I have been dreaming of visiting India, French Polynesia, and Argentina!

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… It’s hard to pick what I love most about being a wedding photographer, but for me, there is something so inspiring and humbling about bearing witness to true love. I feel like I am able to touch people’s lives in a very profound way, and being able to do that while creating art is so incredibly meaningful to me. Plus, being such a passionate traveler, I absolutely love that I have the opportunity to explore the world while working in some of the most beautiful destinations on the planet.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD BE… honestly, if I won the lottery tomorrow, I would STILL be a destination wedding photographer. I truly feel so fortunate to have found my dream job, and for that I will be forever thankful!

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE… to enjoy the process and to do what feels right to them. There can be so much pressure from society to have a certain type of wedding, and I encourage all newly engaged couples to really take the time to reflect on their relationship and what kind of wedding would be the most meaningful to them. Whether it’s a intimate wedding in the backyard of their childhood home, an elegant soirée in the French countryside, or a quiet elopement in Greece - my biggest piece of advice to couples is to simply follow their hearts.

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? Sophia Coppola’s ‘Marie Antoinette.’ I am so incredibly inspired by Sophia’s use of light and color, and as a woman I find her perspective on the female experience so beautiful and thought provoking. Plus, the soundtrack is amazing, the costumes are exquisite, and through Sophia’s lens, Versailles has never looked more magical.

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… a few years ago we spent three weeks exploring Italy, and on a particularly beautiful afternoon in Tuscany found ourselves in a tiny village around lunchtime. We initially had a restaurant in mind, but somehow after taking one too many wrong turns through the charming alleyways, we were completely lost. At that point we were both famished, so we stepped into the first restaurant that we could find – which ended up being the best meal that we had eaten in all of Italy. We sat in a beautiful courtyard garden and sipped red wine until our lunch arrived – two heaping bowls of fresh bucatini pasta served with olive oil, Parmesan, and shaved black truffle. If that wasn’t delicious enough, every ten minutes the chef would walk outside, truffle in hand, and shave more and more into our bowls. It was truly the most delicious meal I have ever eaten, made that much more special by the complete serendipity of the experience!

THE PETS I OWN ARE… Yoda, our sweet rescue pup. We fostered him four years ago and within twenty-four hours fell head over heels in love and just knew he was meant to be a part of our family. He has been our greatest joy and truly brings us more happiness than we ever thought possible!
