Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT… either meeting up with a friend for lunch, or reading in a spot with coffee and good wifi.

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… this is a hard one!! I think I’d have to say going to Berlin. I was already married, but went to Berlin for a few weeks as part of an art study group. I didn’t know anyone I was traveling with, I’d never been to Europe before, and didn’t speak the language. It was amazing! I love to explore new places, and the artsy vibe of Mitte, finding awesome outdoor markets, and the trying so much new food was heaven. So much smoked herring was consumed! By the end of the trip, I was plotting how to get my husband and our dog to move there with me

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… New Zealand. Besides just looking insanely beautiful, I love the idea of the remoteness of it.

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… Wedding days are the best! I get to meet someone and her closest friends and family on one of the happiest days of her life. And my job is to help her feel her most beautiful that day. It really can’t get better than that. I’m one of those people who really loves her job and couldn’t imagine doing anything else at this point.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD BE… If I had to pick, then a mixed media artist focused on fashion and identity theory. My background was in sculpture, fibers, and materials studies, and I went to a pretty conceptual art school for college. I would maybe be making crazy wigs about different events in my life.

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE… this is going to sound super corny, but don’t let the honeymoon end. After the big trip, try and plan a few smaller “honeymoons,” maybe just a weekend away a couple of times a year, where it’s just the two of you again. Make it a habit, a part of your marriage. I’ve been married for 13 years, and dealing with things like job changes, getting older, and having kids are so much more complicated than when it was just the two of you. The ability to stay connected through it all is so important, so learning how to disengage and run away together is a great skill to have.

I LOVE WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE… Seasons! I’m not ready to give up on snow and winter yet.

IF I COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD IT WOULD BE…  Ah! This is a hard one. Somewhere with great oysters, sandy beaches, and lots of rivers and ocean is a good start.

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? There are so many favourites, but movies that I’ve seen more times than I care to admit would be Working Girl and My Fair Lady.

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… The dinner at my wedding. My husband’s family is Cajun, and he and his mom were in charge of the menu. I literally had no idea what they’d planned, but was told a turducken (I had to look it up!) was being fedex’ed up for the dinner. The dinner started off with someone’s personal gumbo recipe, and went from there, and it was pretty awesome.

THE PETS I OWN ARE… Old! We each had a cat when we met, then got a rescue shepard-beagle mix right after we got married. Now, it’s like living with 3 much older people who just want to sleep, eat food that’s bad for them, and avoid the young kids in the house.
