Shotgunning for Love

At Shotgunning for Love, calligraphy is handcrafted and personal. I think of calligraphy like a fingerprint; each artisan has their own style. For me, each curve is crafted with mindful purpose. I believe in the value of creating something with your hands and the beautiful imperfection of a hand lettered stroke. I’m inspired by little drops of ink where they’re not supposed to be, the textured edges of handmade paper, pulling the lever of my letterpress, and the reason I began practicing this old trade. I want to make heirloom stationery that tugs on the heartstrings - pretty enough to keep.

Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT… Antiquing. I love driving to quiet little towns and searching for what I consider to be treasures.

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… my father is from Greece and most of my family still lives there. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many places, but there’s nothing like having a meal in Greece at a taverna with the family. Good food, the smell of the sea, the sounds of a language I’m still trying to master, and my cheek getting squeezed every 5 minutes - yes, please!

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… Spain.

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… the rush of emotion I get when I realise I made something special. I’m sentimental. I love old things. The thought of creating an heirloom piece of stationery that someone wants to keep and pass down to their children pulls on my heartstrings in a way nothing else does.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD BE/DO… I have a master’s degree in clinical social work.

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE… enjoy the moment. Hire professionals that know what they’re doing and let them work.

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? I could watch Legends of the Fall or Interstellar on repeat.

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… Anything my yiayia (grandma) has ever made for me. She used to make her own version of spanakopita, but she made the dough by hand using the leftover juice from the spinach and rolled the spinach, feta, and onion filling into a tube. I loved watching her cook.

THE PETS I OWN ARE… My dog Titan - 90 pounds of snuggle and attitude.
