The Happy Bloom

Happy. Romantic. Effortless.

The Happy Bloom specialises in fine art wedding photography with a Southern heartbeat. All of the soft dreamy film goodness - but just with a small Charleston twist. Justin is the main guy behind the camera and he somehow manages to convince his gorgeous wife - Amanda - to help him out on most Saturdays.

Graduating with a degree in Graphic Design from Auburn University, Justin pursued both photography and illustration right out of college. During a pivotal moment in his digital photography career, Justin became smitten with film photography. Everything from the luminous quality seen in the images to the patience required for the process led him to fall in love with the art of photography once more.

You can easily find Justin and Amanda sitting on their back porch rocking chairs with a rye old fashioned in hand (and their pup Scout at their feet).

Interview

IF WE HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT... outside. You can usually find us in the garden or in the pool with a margarita.

OUR MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS... definitely Hawaii. Kauai specifically. So quiet and untouched. My favourite place on the planet.

THE COUNTRY WE MOST WANT TO VISIT IS... Morocco! The colours. The culture. The texture. A photographer's dream

WHAT WE LOVE MOST ABOUT OUR JOB IS... Photos are so important. We can all admit that we don't take enough. You only come to that realisation once someone is no longer with us - and your heart wishes you would have taken more photos. Our job is so important, freezing moments with family and loved ones. I'm so thankful I get to do this for a living.

IF WE DIDN'T DO THIS FOR A JOB WE WOULD... I could see myself as some sort of - live off the land hippie selling eggs on the side of the road - kind of guy. Haha, no really. I can see it. I still hope I become that guy!

IF WE COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE... break the mold. So often our couples feel like they have to follow a strict set of rules with planning their wedding, their choices etc. But rules were made to be broken. It's your one wedding day. Make bold decisions. Make weird choices. Make your wedding day YOURS.

WE LOVE WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE... of the trees. THE TREES! Oak trees and Spanish moss. After many years in the low-country we still love those trees.

IF WE COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD IT WOULD BE... exactly where we are.

OUR FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? Big Fish - easily. I'm a huge Tim Burton fan and this one takes the cake for me.

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL WE'VE EVER EATEN WAS... sitting in a small town in France. Couldn't understand anything on the menu. Just pointed to something. There was something so freeing and exciting about diving into the unknown. And the food was amazing.

THE PETS WE OWN ARE... Scout! He's an American Bulldog/Lab mix and he is the heart of our family (well don't tell our 9 chickens we said that!).
