Allison Taylor Creative

Vancouver Photographer

Born and raised on Vancouver Island, and now a destination photographer based in Vancouver, BC, Allison has a unique eye for the details as well as the uncanny ability to direct, compose, and style subjects to capture natural feeling imagery. A childhood fascination with ‘capturing a moment in time’ grew into the passion she has today for creating images with authenticity, that tell a captivating story, and maybe even hold a touch of the magic that first drew her to the medium.

"I see my work as primarily photojournalistic, capturing real moments as they unfold and I just adore movement in some form or another. There's a nostalgia to the way I photograph a wedding, I see a frame through my lens and then I see it in the hands of a grandchild pointing to the picture and asking "and who's this?" That is the kind of timelessness I strive for."

Interview

IF I HAVE A FREE SUNDAY I WOULD SPEND IT… with my family. Sundays usually consist of taking our dog Fitzgerald out for a trail walk or a hike and then spending the evening cozied up on the couch with everyone (husband Brody, Fitzgerald, and our cat Poe) in blankets, watching movies and sharing snacks!

MY MOST MEMORABLE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WAS… How to choose? I love travelling! If I had to pick one memorable experience it was probably Bali with my sister in 2016. It was the furthest I'd ever travelled at the time and from start to finish the whole experience was magical.

THE COUNTRY I MOST WANT TO VISIT IS… Egypt has been at the top of my list since I was a little girl.

WHAT I LOVE MOST ABOUT MY JOB IS… I think what I love most is the combination of art and creation with capturing real, cherished moments with loved ones. I still can't believe these experiences are my work.

IF I DIDN’T DO THIS FOR A JOB I WOULD BE/DO… Either a writer or an interior designer! Maybe both.

IF I COULD GIVE NEWLY ENGAGED COUPLES ONE PIECE OF ADVICE IT WOULD BE…
start the wedding planning process with two things in mind: first, that knowing your wedding day priorities will help with every decision you have to make along the way and second, that this portion lasts a lot longer than the wedding day itself - enjoy it!

I LOVE WHERE I LIVE BECAUSE… Honestly, I've yet to find anywhere that compares. I love the lush greenery, the mountains, and the beaches (and the relatively moderate temperatures).

IF I COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD IT WOULD BE… Europe. Every time I've spent a little while in Europe, I come home and inevitably miss the lifestyle. I love being able to walk to almost everywhere I need to get to!

MY FAVOURITE MOVIE IS? Tough call. I think I have to go with The Devil Wears Prada but Midnight in Paris is probably a close second.

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL I’VE EVER EATEN WAS… probably not the most exciting answer but growing up we had a weekend ritual of getting fish 'n' chips with our Dad and that's become a pretty cherished memory.

THE PETS I OWN ARE… an absolutely adorable (and he knows it) Mini Aussie Shepherd/Papillon mix named Fitz and the cuddliest little black cat I've ever known, Poe.
